Basil Martini

Basil Martini

I’ve spent most the evenings this week trying to mix up some brand-new drinks made out of our favorite ingredients. So far I’ve created all sorts of libations, from a delicious Spiked Strawberry Lasse, to this – my masterpiece of the week – a Basil Martini.

The Basil Martini so simple, I can’t believe I’ve never thought of it before. I had merely searched for “basil” on my phone’s bartending application to spark the idea, and drew upon the inspiration of their cocktails to create my new favorite drink.

And seriously – who doesn’t love some fresh basil?

In this drink you’re basically replacing the vermouth you’d usually include in a vodka martini for a basil and mint syrup. The earthy sweet basil and mint completely overwhelm the senses as you take each sip of this amazing cocktail.

Letting your herbs sit in the lime juice for a few minutes gives the acids time to break down your basil and leave behind only the aromas and flavor you love, all without having to chew on a basil leaf.

This cocktail is any basil lovers dream.

Basil Martini

This amazing herb cocktail is both refreshing and intoxicating. There's no doubt that mixing up one of these on a hot summer day will leave you cooled and satisfied.

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 oz water
  • 1 lime
  • 6 basil leaves
  • 3 mint leaves
  • Ice

  1. Juice your lime directly into the cocktail shaker.
  2. Muddle the basil and mint into the lime juice and let sit for a minimum of 3 minutes.
  3. Add water, sugar, and vodka to the shaker.
  4. Fill with ice and shake for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with fresh basil leaf.

Do yourself a favor and mix up one of these Basil Martinis! It may sound weird to have basil in a cocktail, but I promise – it’ll be one of the most refreshing cocktails you’ve ever experienced.
